Andrea Ventling’s art represents the culmination of her diverse life experiences. Originally from Switzerland, Andrea studied Zoology and arrived in Aotearoa at the Leigh Marine Lab for her postdoctoral studies where she fell in love with its surroundings and rich marine life. Years later Andrea reawakened her creative talents with further education in interior design and special paint finishes. The application of layered paints, inks and metallic leaf now find a creative extension in her art. She uses silver leaf as a luminous background to play with reflection and light experienced under water. Her paintings invite you to dive in, swimming through schools of fish and kelp, gazing up at the surface where sunlight filters through. The viewer gets pulled into the paintings where time can stand still for a moment, experiencing a spiritual connection with this silent and colourful world.
