Ana Teofilo

Ana is an NZ born Samoan artist who creates contemporary Pasifika art works from her hometown in Dunedin. Her practice involves carving each individual wooden painted board, and then encompassing the imagery with glue dots to enhance a three-dimensional effect of the carvings. A common theme seen in Ana’s works is the connection of Pacific identity and storytelling journeys through decorative motifs that speaks of the Pacific genre of art in NZ. Ana creates her own new traditions which are deeply rooted from her Samoan heritage and by a spiritual feeling that can only be felt in the moment of creating. “These are my stories that enable the assertion of my own identity”.
