Growing up in remote, rural Wairarapa gave Kirsty her love of landscape. Now living on the south coast of Wellington, she enjoys translating her passion for wild landscape using texture and tone through the printmaking process. While known for her coastal landscapes, current etchings focus on our native bush, nga taonga o te ngahere, our treasures of the forest. The use of pattern work within her landscapes is inspired by Pacific Island masi and tapa cloth as well as Māori whakairo. Allowing Kirsty to add narrative to her work, referencing our place here in the Pacific, reflecting on her research of past and present habitation.
